Recently die-hard ski fans and readers of prestigious Powder Magazine named Rossland and Nelson, BC, Canada, as the Best Ski Towns in North America beating out ski destinations like Crested Butte, CO; Sandpoint, ID; Sugarloaf, ME; and Whitefish, MT.
I'm very proud to say I live in the Kootenay region of southern BC so both Rossland and Nelson are at my backdoor!  We're located near the US border about 8 hours driving from Vancouver or Calgary, AB, or only 2.5 hours from a flight into Spokane, WA.

Red Mountain Resort, Rossland, BC

Rossland, with a year-round population of 3,500, is a friendly laid back little town chock full of avid outdoor enthusiasts.  With an average snowfall of 750 centimetres (300 inches), Red Mountain Resort spans 4,200 acres over two mountains while offering 88 marked runs, 6 lifts, a vertical drop of 890 metres (2,919 feet), with skiing and boarding from beginner to expert and of course, our region's epic powder.

Whitewater Ski Resort, Nelson, BC

Set on picturesque Kootenay Lake, Nelson is a trendy hippy town of about 10,200 residents that attracts visitors during all seasons with it's variety of unique shopping, locally sourced restaurants, Victorian heritage homes, and abundant natural beauty.  Whitewater Ski Resort has minimal lineups while offering 78 runs for skiers & boarders of all abilities, 3 lifts, and a vertical drop of 623 metres (2.044 feet).
