I have a very special penchant for Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte, just forty-five minutes outside of Paris in the town of Maincy. It's an architecturally stunning baroque chateau that was built in the 1650's for Nicolas Fouquet, finance superintendent to Louis XIV.
On a property of 5 acres, symmetrical Vaux le Vicomte spans 41,000 square feet while showcasing lavishly decorated bedrooms and private apartments, a gorgeous double-height Grand Salon, a carriage house (complete with period carriages), moat and exquisitely manicured gardens noteworthy of inspiring that novel ;)

To share the love and learn more, visit Vaux le Vicomte.
